EQUIPMENT & HOMEOWNER GUIDANCE

A heat pump for your home and our seasons.

An air-source heat pump moves heat between indoors and outdoors. The same system can provide heating and cooling, but selection needs to account for both seasons.

A residential outdoor heat pump cabinet

Ducted, ductless, and dual-fuel options.

A ducted heat pump distributes air through a central indoor unit and ducts. Ductless equipment serves spaces through indoor units. A dual-fuel configuration pairs a compatible heat pump with a furnace and controls that manage the change in heat source. Existing equipment does not automatically support every arrangement.

Ask about capacity in cold weather.

For a West Virginia home, compare the specific model’s heating output at the outdoor conditions used to size the project. An annual efficiency label alone does not describe that output. Ask whether supplemental heat is needed, how defrost is handled, and which controls will manage the system.

Look beyond the equipment label.

The room load, indoor airflow, ducts if present, and the operating range of the equipment all belong in the selection. A cold-climate designation is useful information about tested performance, not a promise that any unit can heat any house without backup. Request a home-specific explanation.

Understand the operating plan.

Ask how the thermostat should be used, when supplemental heat may run, and what normal operation sounds like. Discuss access for maintenance and a suitable outdoor location. Actual operating cost depends on the home, equipment, settings, weather, and energy prices; a savings amount cannot be assumed.

Compare the approach, not just the equipment.

A FEW COMMON QUESTIONS

Make the next conversation useful.

These guides explain equipment choices. Mountain Air’s specific products, installation, repair, and maintenance capabilities are confirmed directly.

Talk about your home
Does a heat pump work below freezing?

Many models do, but available heating output varies. Compare the exact model’s low-temperature performance with the home’s heating requirement.

Will it always reduce my energy bills?

No fixed savings can be promised. The result depends on the equipment being replaced, energy rates, the building, and operation.

Can my existing thermostat stay?

It must support the new system, including stages, auxiliary heat, or manufacturer-specific communication. Have compatibility checked before deciding.
