EQUIPMENT & HOMEOWNER GUIDANCE

Before a bigger system, look at airflow.

A room can feel uncomfortable because air is not reaching it or returning properly. Equipment capacity is only part of the picture.

Supply and return need to work together.

Supply ducts deliver conditioned air; return paths bring it back. A room with a supply but an inadequate return path may behave differently when its door is closed. Report where and when the temperature changes. Moving furniture away from a register is different from altering the duct system.

Duct location and condition matter.

Leaks, disconnected sections, restrictions, and damaged insulation can affect delivery. Ducts running through an attic or crawlspace face different surrounding conditions from ducts inside conditioned space. An assessment should consider access and the whole distribution route, not just the nearest visible section.

Ask what a proposed change is meant to solve.

Duct sizing and changes should follow the equipment’s airflow requirements and a design assessment. A bigger unit does not repair a poor distribution path. Ask how supply and return performance will be checked. Duct installation, sealing, or modification must be confirmed as part of any proposed work; those capabilities are not assumed here.

Compare the approach, not just the equipment.

A FEW COMMON QUESTIONS

Talk about your home
Should I close vents in rooms I don’t use?

Do not treat closed vents as a substitute for a zoning design. The system still needs appropriate airflow. Discuss unused rooms with a qualified professional.

Does Mountain Air install new ductwork?

Duct installation and modification scope must be confirmed directly before arranging work. This page explains the decisions involved.
